Heartland takes place in the park surrounding Egeskov Castle, which has stood in its beautiful location in the landscape of Southern Funen for more than 460 years. The name Egeskov originally stems from an estate of the same name and, today, Egeskov is famous for being the best preserved moat castle in Europe. Egeskov has been open to visitors for more than fifty years and annually welcomes more than 200,000 guests from more than 115 countries.

Egeskov Castle is the best-preserved renaissance water castle in northern Europe, with an intact moat, parks and a maze from 1730. Big sky, ample space and an almost magical setting: The garden has received numerous awards, and CNN lists it as one of the twelve most see-worthy gardens on the planet.

Egeskov has hosted a variety of acclaimed artists over the years. In recent times, the guest list includes Salman Rushdie, Jonathan Safran Foer, Paolo Coelho, J.K. Rowling and Tori Amos, among others.

THE GARDENS

In 2012, the Egeskov Gardens won a European Garden Award as the best developed and restored garden in Europe.

The gardens surrounding the old castle are known as ‘the most beautiful gardens in Denmark’, and CNN Travel has named them one of the 12 most spectacular gardens in the world.
